Birdbath Mosaic Workshop 2

Michelle from Riverlight Studio facilitated the mosaic session for our WineDown ladies, and it was one of the standout activities of the weekend. After seeing how much everyone enjoyed it, Michelle and I attended another workshop together to see whether it was something we could offer here at Airtree on a larger scale.

The answer was a very easy yes.

It was one of those activities where the hours disappeared without you even noticing. Everyone was chatting, laughing, and completely absorbed in what they were making. It fitted perfectly with everything we love about Airtree – slowing down, connecting with others and trying something new.

Michelle has been creating mosaics for years and is now expanding her studio and classes to share her knowledge with more people. Between her patience, teaching style and ability to make the process easy to follow, we are confident anyone who comes along will have a fantastic time.

Before doing the workshop myself, I had never created a mosaic in my life. I assumed it would be difficult and fiddly, but the templates make it surprisingly easy to follow. From there it’s simply a matter of choosing the colours, textures and materials that appeal to you and letting your imagination take over.

Mosaics can be created using an incredible range of materials including ceramic tiles, glass, china plates and cups, terracotta pieces, pebbles, river stones, sea glass, mirror pieces, beads, marbles, gemstones, crystals, shells, coloured glass, buttons and even decorative items such as old jewellery, keys and trinkets. No two projects are ever the same.

The best part? You simply turn up and enjoy yourself. There is no mess to clean up, no preparation required and no experience necessary. We supply all materials, tools and equipment, and Michelle will guide you through the cutting techniques and creative process while you create your own unique piece of art.
